Kapiti police have arrested and charged a 22-year-old man with murder in connection to the death of a 20-year-old man in the Kapiti Lights complex in the early hours of this morning.
Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam says the victim was found lying on the ground around 12.40am, when police arrived at the scene.
The dead man was Sean Strongman-Lintern of Paraparaumu.
Mr Oxnam says it seems an altercation had taken place between Mr Strongman-Lintern and another man in the vicinity of the Monteiths Kapiti Junction bar, prior to the arrival of police.
The victim died at the scene.
The arrested man will appear in the Porirua District Court on Monday.
More than 30 police staff are working on the investigation.
A scene examination has been underway today.
A post-mortem examination was carried out this afternoon and police are looking for information about a knife or similar item that may have been discarded in the Kapiti Lights area or along State Highway One, south of Paraparaumu through to Pukerua Bay.
