Attempted robbery in West Auckland

By: Jacob Brown | Latest Crime News | Friday July 27 2012 16:35

Victim support is assisting bank workers who were subjected to an attempted robbery in West Auckland today.

Police are still looking for a man who tried to rob a customer at the ASB Bank in Avondale just after 10.30 this morning.

The customer and a security guard chased the man away, and he was last seen running down Wingate Street carrying a black bag and large kitchen knife.

Detective Sergeant Jason McIntosh says the experience stirred both the customer and security guard.

"They were rather shaken up, as were the bank tellers, but victim support are dealing with them and I understand the support officers from the bank."
