Sex offender's schools named

By: Blair Cunningham | Latest Crime News | Friday April 13 2012 12:12

Four of the schools where a convicted sex offender worked, can now be revealed.

Terito Miki will be sentenced in May after admitting he used a false CV and birth certificate to gain work at a number of primary and secondary schools.

He worked at Matapihi Primary in Tauranga; Rotorua's Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Koutu; Rangitahi College in Murupara and Stratford Community Centre all at various times between 2007 and 2009.

A suppression order still covers the name of two Auckland schools Miki also worked.

The lawyer for one Auckland school that he worked at believes no good can come from identifying it.

Lawyer Christine Chilwell told the court identifying the school would recreate a media frenzy, at a time when the healing is well underway.

She said the school is worried for the health and wellbeing of students and a premature loss of their childhood.

A decision on whether or not to name the school will be revealed the day before sentencing.
