New Zealand deer producers are making a push for the Chinese market.
The deer industry says Chinese demand for premium venison is on the rise.
Business correspondent Roger Kerr told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking that New Zealand has had some success in marketing the product to China.
"Venison exports' prices remain pretty strong actually, between seven and $8 a kilo, and in fact Primary Industries Minister David Carter hinted that other red meat producers in New Zealand could actually learn a thing or two from the marketing and the pricing success of the venison export trade."
Mr Kerr says velvet produced from deer antlers which is used in oriental medicine, is also in demand.
