Auckland businesses are still waiting for the economic recovery. The latest Auckland Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Business Confidence Survey shows just 16 percent of respondents think the business situation in New Zealand will improve in the next six months. Chief executive Michael Barnett says this is up from May, but still down from the 22 percent in February who held this view. "I think what we're seeing is a really flat economy where most of the firms have gone through a global financial crisis, they've trim down, they're ready for recovery, but it's a recovery that's just not turning up." He thinks firms should be looking offshore. "I think they're still looking domestically and quite frankly I don't think they're going to find demand grow in this New Zealand market over the next 12 to 18 months." Photo: NZ Herald |
