Resource contents granted for wind farm

| Business News | Monday June 25 2012 14:17

Mighty River Power has been granted resource consents for a proposed 53 turbine wind farm on the Puketoi Range, 40 kilometres south of Dannevirke.

It includes provision for a transmission line to link the Puketoi project to the National Grid.

General Manager Development Mark Trigg says at full capacity, the proposed development could provide sufficient electricity to power the equivalent of 150,000 homes.

But the SOE is in no hurry to get the the project off the ground.

It says demand at the moment is back to 2008 levels and they will commit when electricity demand recovers.
