No other clear alternative for Alliance Group

By: Jacqui Stanford | Business News | Friday October 26 2012 21:52

Alliance Group says there was no viable alternative to moving its sheep meat processing from Mataura to Lourneville.

All affected processing workers have been offered employment the Lourneville site, which is more than a half hour drive away.

Redundancies are likely among management, supervisors, engineers and administrative staff.

Chief Executive Grant Cuffs says that after consultation with its staff and unions it carefully considered the feedback before making its decision.

"Looked at all of the suggestions and answered any questions that arose and that process hasn't in the end changed our initial proposal."

Beef processing is to remain at the Mataura plant.
