Air NZ working to make long-haul profitable

By: Annabel Reid | Business News | Tuesday June 12 2012 9:14

Air New Zealand's tracking well to get its long-haul network back into profit.

The company's long-haul plans have been a topic of interest as CEO Rob Fyfe addressed the International Air Transport Association annual conference in Beijing.

Business correspondent Roger Kerr says Air New Zealand made a profit of $74 million before tax last year.

"I think they'll struggle to meet that in the current financial year which ends in June but they are certainly making cost savings on the long-haul network," he told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking.

Roger Kerr says Air New Zealand's increased capacity into Bali, Perth and Hawaii have helped the carrier's long-haul performance.
