Auckland business owners believe the extra rates burden that's set to be heaped on them is unfair.
The Employers and Manufacturers Association says the Auckland Council is planning to charge them 2.63 times more than other ratepayers, which equates to $150 million a year.
Executive Officer Peter Atkinson says the council has hung its hat on being business friendly.
"Whilst businesses don't make decisions about relocation solely on the grounds of the rating system, it's a signal that says, well we think that business is important or maybe we don't think that it's as important as perhaps it could be."
Mr Atkinson says rather than such a big rates differential, it would be better to increase the Uniform Annual General Charge.
