Oil refinery expansion to go ahead

By: Sam Thompson | Business News | Friday April 27 2012 16:43

The country's only oil refinery's $365 million expansion plan has been given the green light.

Almost 65 percent of Refining New Zealand shareholders voted in favour of the project this afternoon.

It's expected to create around 700 jobs during construction, boost energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and increase income by around $70 million a year.

The project is expected to take around three years to complete and be operational late 2015.
