Big increase in new car sales

By: Kaye Albyt | Business News | Thursday September 6 2012 16:49

Car sales people are rubbing their hands after nearly 8,200 new vehicles drove off the car yard last month.

That's a 9 percent increase on last year.

MTA spokesman Ian Stronach says it's a positive sign for the economy.

"We're about 10,000 new vehicles ahead in total compared to where we were this time last year, and pretty strong. And that money is coming from somewhere, so people have got a certain level of security to be paying that."

Toyota, Ford and Holden are the top selling brands, with the Ford Focus the most popular selling new car.
