Political changes in Europe discouraging investors

| Business News | Tuesday April 24 2012 8:25

Two political developments in Europe are likely to have discouraged investors in the last few weeks.

The Dutch prime minister has resigned, and French president Nicolas Sarkozy faces a battle to keep his job as the general election swings away from him.

Business correspondent Roger Kerr says both events are disturbing investors.

"Nicolas Sarkozy's lost the first round of his re-election bid. A socialist candidate Francois Hollande is pushing economic policies that would probably compound France's debt and deficit problems so markets don't like those developments."

Mr Kerr says it's an unsettling time for the European markets which are already struggling to recover from economic crises.
