New Zealand's being told to get ready for an influx of tourists from Indonesia. Auckland Airport is forecasting Indonesia to be one of the fastest growing outbound tourism markets by 2020. TravConsult's Trevor Lee says the wealthy population in Indonesia grew by 20 percent last year. He says there's a market of around 10 million very affluent Indonesian people who can afford to travel overseas. "We're not going to expect 2 million to arrive on New Zealand's doorstep. "That being said there's a percentage of them out there that are keen for different unique destinations, they're already well travelled to Malaysia and Singapore they're now looking for that unique Western experience." Trevor Lee says the majority of Indonesia's wealthy population also speak English. Mr Lee says Indonesia's wealthy population is growing which is encouraging many to experience Western culture. "It's all about the nature, the landscape, the scenery, and very, very much it's all about the freshness and the clean image that New Zealand has." The re-introduction of Indonesia's national airline, Garuda, to New Zealand after a break of six years is expected to be an added bonus. Photo: Claudio Geoffroy Stockxchng |
