As part of national money week, the Reserve Bank has released a podcast explaining compound interest and its affect on savings.

The podcast is part of the Reserve Bank's ongoing effort to encourage financial literacy.

Reserve Bank spokesperson Don Abel, says the user friendly podcast is a tool which will broaden peoples financial understanding.

He says they are hoping community groups and schools will promote the free resource by linking it to their Facebook pages and websites.
