Mercury cuts Auckland power prices

Electricity prices are going down, for some

Mercury Energy, the retail arm of Mighty River Power, has announced a one-percent reduction for customers in Auckland.

Newstalk ZB business correspondent Roger Kerr says it'll take effect from April 1.

He says it's not due to market prices dropping.

"The price reduction is due to the network company Vector being forced to cut its prices by the Commerce Commission."

Roger Kerr says the last time power went down was in 2003.
