Wage levels rise in March

By: Blair Cunningham | Business News | Tuesday May 1 2012 16:29

Wages may be rising, but not fast enough for some.

New Labour Cost Index statistics show there was a two percent increase in wage levels for the year to March.

Council of Trade Unions economist Bill Rosenberg says that doesn't compare well to the Consumer Price Index rise of 1.6 percent.

He says rates are also slowing marginally from quarter to quarter.

Mr Rosenberg says the increases are below expectations and not all New Zealanders are sharing them equally, with higher income earners in the private sector earning the biggest rises.
