Business leader Barnett off to Indonesia

By: Blair Cunningham | Business News | Saturday April 14 2012 15:04

Auckland's economy will be the focus for business leader Michael Barnett as he heads to Indonesia today.

Prime Minister John Key is leading a 26 strong trade delegation to talk trade and diplomatic relations.

Auckland Chamber of Commerce CEO Michael Barnett has been in Sydney for trade talks and will spend the next few days in Jakarta and Singapore.

He says plenty of opportunities exist in the areas of geothermal technology, agriculture, tourism and education.

"I don't believe we've taken advantage of them to date but there are some great opportunities for business. The brand for me is Auckland, the business for New Zealand really starts there."

Mr Barnett says if Auckland's doing well, generally the rest of the country is doing well too.
