Sir Peter Jackson has been awarded the 2014 Blake Medal.

Named after the late Sir Peter Blake, it honours outstanding leadership.

The filmmaker is busy filming the latest in The Hobbit franchise and the medal was accepted on his behalf by Matt Dravitzki, of Wingnut Films tonight.

Sir Peter Blake Leadership Awards have also been presented to six of the nation's emerging leaders.

They include doctor, skiing champion and founder of MedRecruit Sam Hazledine and TV fishing personality Matt Watson.
