Drysdale wins gold

By: Elliott Smith | Latest News | Friday August 3 2012 23:42

It's been a golden hour on the water for New Zealand.

Single sculls rower Mahe Drysdale has won gold in London, holding off the challenge of longtime Czech rival Ondrej Synek as the two tussled for the lead throughout the race.

Drysdale, who claimed bronze despite illness four years ago at the Beijing Games, posted a time of 6 minutes 57.82, two seconds ahead of Synek.

Just half an hour earlier, the men's pair of Hamish Bond and Eric Murray eased to gold in their final.
