One of New Zealand's most visited national parks is set to undergo a $30 million restoration project.
Abel Tasman National Park will be rejuvenated over 30 years.
Project Janszoon director Devon McLean says the first five years has been made possible by a donation from a private family trust.
He says it's a great example of the Department of Conservation working together with private individuals.
"We know that we can bring some resources that the department simply doesn't have at this time and make a real difference, the businesses already have a wonderful experience but here's an opportunity to make the experience even better over the next few decades
He says it will focus on pest control and species recovery work.2.
"There's a real opportunity here to enhance the park by investing in control of some of the damaging agents and some restoration, some reintroduction of birds that have been lost from the park and some supplementing of the planting."
Mr McLean says Abel Tasman was chosen because it's one of New Zealand's most visited national parks.
