Demand is increasing for rural and lifestyle properties in greater Auckland and Northland.
In the fourth quarter of 2011, the average value of sales each month was 23.1 million dollars.
Almost 21 million dollars worth of rural and lifestyle property was sold last month - the highest January total for four years and up 26 percent on the same time last year.
Barfoot and Thompson managing director Peter Thompson says the demand for dairy farms, particularly in Northland is increasing, and there's also a strong interest in lifestyle properties valued under a million dollars.
He says the area of greatest interest is Rodney.
