Credit rating affected

By: Jacqui Stanford | Latest Political News | Saturday February 4 2012 18:44

A new advertising campaign will hit TV screens this weekend, highlighting the consequences for people who refuse to pay fines and reparation.

Courts Minister Chester Borrows says the 15-second ad, which launches tomorrow, is part of the Ministry of Justice's "Pay your fines, or pay the price" campaign.

It is timed to coincide with a bill coming into force on the 15th of this month, which will mean unpaid fines could impact on people trying to get credit.

Mr Borrows says the bill targets people who have no intention of paying up.

He says too many offenders think they can avoid paying their fines or making good on reparation to victims of their crimes.
