Governor General questioned

By: Annabel Reid | Latest Political News | Saturday February 4 2012 17:00

The Governor General is being questioned over where he stands with Maori.

Sir Jerry Mateparae and his wife Janine Lady Mateparae were welcomed with a powhiri to the Lower Waitangi Marae today.

Kaumatua Kingi Taurua says His Excellency was asked what role will he play for Maori, and whether his responsibility will be to Maori or to the "settler government".

Mr Taurua says under the Treaty the Governor General's first priority should be for Maori.
