Horrific neglect case ends in dog ban

By: Juliette Sivertsen | Latest Crime News | Saturday February 4 2012 8:19

A judge has banned a man from owning dogs for nearly a decade, for an horrific animal neglect case.

28 year-old Ricky Griffiths had previously pleaded guilty in the Auckland District Court to two charges of failing to provide proper and sufficient food to two dogs.

He's now been banned from owning dogs for eight years, and sentenced to 100 hours community work.

The SPCA believes when the dogs were found, they'd been within food for weeks and were just days from death.

One of them had to be put down, but the other made a miraculous recovery.

SPCA Inspector Vicki Border says it was one of the worst cases of neglect she's ever seen.
