Man sentenced for attack on elderly woman

By: Dana Kinita | Latest Crime News | Tuesday February 21 2012 14:44

A Northland man will serve nearly nine years in prison after robbing an elderly woman and leaving her bound and gagged in her home.

The 20-year-old appeared in the Whangarei District Court today for sentencing on multiple charges of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, burglary and injuring to cause grievous bodily harm.

Last year he and a co-offender broke into a Te Kopuru home and repeatedly hit the 67-year-old woman before bounding her feet and hands and using a tea towel to gag her.

He was also involved in an aggravated robbery of a Dargaville cafe where he threatened a 59-year-old woman to hand over cash.
